Dell, I really enjoy your bi-weekly slice of Cayucos (and Cayucans), having just finished your most recent ode to Patrick..I have lived in Cayucos at 23 Ash for 21 years and have also observed the slow but steady erosion of the rancher/surfer town by the beach vibe...I first discovered Cayucos in the mid "70s after moving to A-Town from So. Cal...It was senior ditch day from Atascadero HS in '75 that I first decided that one day Cayucos would be my home...It was about eight of us who caravaned over 41 and took a right turn @ Hwy 1...We conscripted one of the "locals" to buy us a case of Lucky Lager ( then $1.99/case) at the Ocean and D liquor store ( Paying a 2 beer tax)..we spent the day getting sunburned, buzzed and prognosticating about our futures..I remember as clear as yesterday thinking " if I'm lucky enough to live wherever I want, one day I will live in Cayucos"...Following 10 years in Eugene Oregon attending college,law school and generally being a hippie, I moved back to LA to "make it big"...I'm embarrassed to say that it took 10 years of LA Law, to arrive at the realization that making it "really big" would be living in a modest home,a block from the beach in Cayucos..We might be suffering growing pains but it is still a great place to call home....Keep up the great writing, but do not make Cayucos look like too much fun...Look what the fuck happened to Laguna Beach...Jeff Stulberg
